Dick Tomkins, 69, of Ely, passed away following years of declining health on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Graveside services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; children, Richard Tomkins Jr. (Karen) and John Tomkins (Herminia); stepsons, Donnie and Michael Scholl; grandchildren, Brandon, Johnna and Bryan; and siblings, Bill Tomkins and Mary Jordan (David).
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Tomkins.
Dick was born Nov. 18, 1947, the son of Merle and Ruth Tomkins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ross. Dick worked as a carpenter, retiring from Ryan Construction. A very skilled carpenter, Dick's passion was fishing, and always after the "big one."
