Iowa City softball team wins senior title

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Big County Seeds Antiques men's softball team from Iowa City won the 55-year-old division of the Badger Classic, going 5-1 in the two-day event.
There also were 60- and 70-year-old divisions as the senior level tournament.
Antiques' only loss was to the Oshkosh Ambassadors, 12-11. The team toppled Playmaker for the title.
CHUCK'S WINS 16-INCH MAJOR
CEDAR RAPIDS - Chuck's, with five Cedar Rapids area players on the team, won the major 16-inch slow-pitch title last weekend at Tait Cummins Softball Complex.
Chuck's went 6-0, beating Old Timer Tavern of Marshalltown, 6-3, in the championship. C.J.'s Sports Bar of Cedar Rapids, winners of the previous four state titles, finished fourth.
Local players on Chuck's are Robert Williams, Josh Peek, Chad Hook, Bryce Schweitzer and Jamie Tiernan. Hook and Schweitzer were named to the all-tournament team, along with Matt Mackey and Jason Kohl of C.J.'s.
BRODY WINS STATE HORSESHOE TOURNEY
DES MOINES - Sheila Brody of Cedar Rapids, a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitching Association, won the state championship for horseshoe pitching at the Iowa State Fair.
She went 5-0 to win the title, throwing a percentage of ringers of 54.88 percent for the day. It's her first state title.
STONEBRIDGE CHURCH HAS GOLD MEDALISTS
LINCOLN, Neb. - Leah Duerksen and Srinath Danivulapati of the Stonebridge Church table tennis team won titles at the National Congress of State Games.
Duerksen won in novice singles, Danivulapati in recreational singles.
Meike Drescher was a double medal winner, taking silver in women's singles and bronze in Class C singles.
Valerie Buffard won a Class D silver and Jarol Duerksen a Class D bronze.
