Letter: Rate change affects senior citizens

We were recently notified by the City of Marion that the longtime practice of granting a discount on their waste collection fees to seniors over 65 will be discontinued.
The reason given was that according to the Iowa State Auditor, rate exemptions based upon age are non-compliant with Section 388.6 of the Code of Iowa.
