Richard T. Feddersen, 96, a longtime resident of Iowa City, died at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, after a brief illness due to heart disease. He was born Aug. 8, 1919. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Oaknoll Retirement Center's Mixers on 5th, with remarks at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's memory to Bur Oak Land Trust, Visiting Nurses Association of Johnson County or a charity of your choice.

Dick was an honor graduate of the University of Iowa in 1941 with a B.A. in economics. He was the permanent class president, Phi Beta Kappa, Order of Artus, Pi Gamma Mu and Omicron Delta Kappa. He was one of the original members of the UI Scottish Highlander band.

Dick was proud of his army career which began at college graduation in advanced ROTC, as a second lieutenant. He served as an active infantryman in World War II for four years in the Pacific Arena, 1941-45. He retired from the army reserves as a colonel in 1979. Dick was the owner/operator of Nall Motors from 1946 to 1973. Dick was active in many civic organizations. He was a proud, longtime member of the board of Mercy Hospital, serving as chairman for several years. He was named "Boss of the Year" in 1972 by the Hire the Handicapped Committee of Johnson County Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Dick was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. He shared his stories and knowledge with many in the community. He enjoyed discussing philosophy and politics.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ann Mercer Feddersen; his children, son Richard (Virginia) Feddersen of Albuquerque, N.M., grandchildren Alex and Matthew Feddersen; and daughter, Nancy (Toby) Hyde of Solon, grandchildren Cameron and Kate Privitt, Cori Hyde and Jamie Sloan.

His memory will be held close and cherished greatly. He was loved so much and will be missed by many.
