Richard "Doug" Carr, 62, of Marengo, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at his home in Marengo surrounded by his family.
Richard D. Carr was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Harold and Mary (Ralston) Carr. He married Marla J. (Pool) Farmakoulas on July 6, 1991, in Marengo. Richard worked for Amana Refrigeration in research and development for several years before he opened his own appliance and repair business until 2011, when he became disabled.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing guitar for family jam sessions. He had a great love of traveling out West with his family. He loved watching the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Oakland Raiders with his family.
Richard is survived by his wife, Marla Carr of Marengo; son, Douglas Carr of Marengo; three stepchildren, Anthony (Nicole) Farmakoulas of Coralville, Andy Farmakoulas of Marengo and Sophia Farmakoulas and fiance Andrew Alden-Anderson of St. Paul, Minn.; two grandchildren, Gavin Farmakoulas and Ebin Farmakoulas of Tiffin; five siblings, Sharon Foulks of Onslow, Carla (Donald) of Monmouth, Dixie Bruns of Monmouth, Cathy Miller of Maquoketa, Eddie (Nancy) Carr of Lauu, Hawaii, and Alan (Carol) Carr of Monmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Lois Hanson, Marilee Lucas, Jane Miller, Linda Carr and Karen Wenthe; and five brothers, Thomas Carr, Jack Carr, Ronald Carr, James Carr and Dale Carr.
A celebration of life and luncheon will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 at the residence of Donald and Carla Clark, Division Street, Monmouth. He will be buried at a later date in Antioch Cemetery in Fairfield.
Expression of sympathy can be sent to the Carr residence at 298 W. Randolph St., Marengo, IA 52301 or left at the celebration of life on Feb. 17.
The family wishes to thank Essence of Life Hospice in Amana, the staff of Amana Family Practice, Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo and the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for their care and compassion.
