Schwarting, Clifford Arthur
Clifford Arthur Schwarting died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Mercy Iowa City at the age of 84 years. Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Pastor Gary Sears will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Bess of Oxford; three sons, Harlen (Leota) Schwarting of Williamsburg, Gary (Leanne) Schwarting of Oxford and Allen (Linda) Schwarting of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Duane (Darlene) Schwarting of Homestead.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born May 14, 1925, in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Arthur Claus and Wanda Henrietta (Pundt) Schwarting. On Aug. 12, 1945, he was united in marriage to Bess Marie Jordt in Williamsburg. They lived in the Homestead area until 1955, when the moved to the Williamsburg area. After retiring in 2000, the couple moved to Oxford. Clifford was a farmer and general contractor. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy, enjoyed wood working, camping, taking care of animals and spending time with his grandchildren.
A general memorial fund has been established.
