Reed, Dorothy Fullerton
CEDAR RAPIDS - Dorothy Fullerton Reed, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dorothy was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Ogden, the daughter of Verne and Harriet Walker. She attended Colfax High School and graduated from Boone High School in 1943. She also attended Boone Junior College. She was united in marriage to Roy Fullerton on Feb. 14, 1946, in Boone. He died Sept. 29, 1978. She then married Nathan Reed on Nov. 9, 1985, in Cedar Rapids. He died Oct. 22, 2007. Dorothy worked various jobs, including the munitions plant in Ankeny during World War II. She was a homemaker for many years. Dorothy then worked at Sanford's, Norand and was a dietary supervisor at Mercy Medical Center, retiring in 1986.
Dorothy was very active until recent years and was always ready to go. She loved gardening, dancing, playing cards, attending church activities and traveling, but most of all spending time with her family.
Dorothy was a loving mother to Kathy Brown of Bellingham, Wash., Steven (Kathleen) Fullerton of Cedar Rapids, Christy (Kenny) Osthimer of Bellingham, Wash., Stan Fullerton of Decorah and stepdaughter, Rachel (Tom) Moore of Ormand Beach, Fla. Her grandchildren, Anna, Sara, Royce, Alison, Lauren, Alice and Cameron were one of her biggest joys in her life.
She was also close to her brothers and sisters and their families: Don Walker, who died in March, and Ted (Bonnie) Walker; sisters, Doris Lee, Donna Arringdale, Bea (Joe) Arnold and Judy (Morse) Shirk; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and brother, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Fullerton; stepson, David Reed; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, by the Rev. Martha Rogers. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may also visit Saturday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the church.
