Wombacher, John G.
John G. Wombacher, 69, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. To honor his wishes there will be no public visitation or services.
John was born Sept. 6, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, to Richard and Wilma (Kielen) Wombacher. Following the death of his father, his mother married Patrick Walsh who adopted John. John graduated from Parnell High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was employed as a machinist at BenCo Manufacturing in Belle Plaine for seven years before his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family. John especially enjoyed the time he spent with his granddaughter, Carley.
He is survived by his children, Hayley Wombacher of Vinton, Tim (Alison) Wombacher of Marion, Ann (Matt) Brandewiede of Harrison, Ohio, Suzanne Krebs of Newton, William (Lisa) Wombacher of Red Oak and John (Marcia) Wombacher of West Branch; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his birth parents and his adoptive father; and two sisters, Honora Walsh and Michelle Moore.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
