Anthony, Dr. S.L. 'Tony'
Dr. S.L. “Tony” Anthony, 79, of Vinton, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Vinton. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, Presbyterian Church, Vinton. Officiants: The Rev. Fred Darbonne and the Rev. Dr. Bill Jamison. Interment: 1 p.m. Sunday at Hazel Dell Cemetery near Council Bluffs. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, and one hour before service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a scholarship fund for those entering or furthering their education in the medical field from the Vinton area.
Tony was born Oct. 10, 1932, in Omaha, Neb., to Mark and Kathryn Anthony. He attended the University of Iowa, where he graduated from the School of Medicine in 1959. Tony married Dorothy Jean Osborn on Aug. 26, 1955. He joined the practice of Doctors Blumgren and Weideman and began medical service to the Vinton area which lasted over 38 years.
Tony is survived by his wife, Dottie of Vinton; their children, S. Lane Anthony, Julie (Brian) Knudsvig, Dr. Jennifer (Jim) Palmer and Ann (Dr. Grant) Forrester; seven grandchildren, Charlie and Joe Knudsvig, Ben, Sam and Tom Palmer and Rachel and Holly Forrester; his sisters, Mary Gillespie of Columbia, Mo., and Prudy Deck of Sioux City; and his uncle, Frank Lane of Council Bluffs.
Tony never forgot where he came from and how important it is to treat others with dignity.
