Bernard C. Brecht, 92, of Marengo, formerly of Belle Plaine, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo with the Rev. Joseph Roost as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick and St. Paul's Cemetery, Watkins. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Bernard was born June 6, 1922, to Leonard and Bertha Brecht. Bernard graduated from Norway High School. He was a lifelong farmer. Throughout his life he loved farming and raising and showing purebred Hampshire hogs with his father-in-law, Andy Siefker. He enjoyed playing cards and he and Marian were avid dancers for many years. Bernard married Marian Siefker on Sept. 13, 1945, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Watkins.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian; four children, Dennis (Yvonne) Brecht of Watkins, Deb Arntzen of Cedar Rapids, Ben (Dora) Brecht of Marengo and Barb (Craig) Forney of Ames; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Kimm; brother, Edwin (Eileen) Brecht; and sisters-in-law, Mary Brecht and Dorothy Brecht.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Katherine Kimm; and brothers, Floyd Brecht, Leonard Brecht Jr. and Marvin in infancy.
Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine is serving the family.
