Kenneth Donald Newman was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Washburn, Wis. On July 1, 2017, he died from cancer and his soul entered heaven. Arrangements made by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
He was the son of Lester and Lillian (Johnson) Newman. He lived in Washburn and Ashland, Wis., for most of his life. Ken graduated from Washburn High School in 1951 and following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for three years. He later graduated from Northland College in Ashland.
Ken was united in marriage to Theresa Morrison on Jan. 5, 1955, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ashland. They were blessed with four children, Donald, Dale, Denise and Dawn. Ken was a social worker in Ashland for 35 years before retiring in 1995. In 2011, Ken and Theresa moved to Hales Corners, Wis. Following Theresa's death in 2014, Ken moved to Marion, Iowa, to live near his daughter, Dawn. Ken loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandson.
He enjoyed sports, singing, reading, playing cards and board games, bingo, doing crossword puzzles, making model airplanes and listening to music.
Ken is survived by his children, Donald (Patty) Newman of Sheboygan, Wis., Dale (Reed Maier) of Milwaukee, Wis., Denise (Fred) Meister of Duluth, Minn., and Dawn (Joseph) Whited of Marion; sisters, Phyllis Garland of Mountain Home, Ark., and Teresa Jarecki of Eau Claire, Wis. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Christine, Charles, Rachel and Nathan; and great-grandson, Zephyr.
Ken will be greatly missed.
A private family service will be held in Washburn, Wis., at a later date.
Ken's family expresses special thanks to St. Luke's Hospice nurses and staff for their kind support and care of Ken.
