MAE HELEN HERZSTOCK (DOMANSKI)
Cedar Rapids
Mae Helen Herzstock (Domanski), 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday Aug. 19, 2017, at the Woodlands in Methwick. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. The family will be having private services at a later date.
Mae is survived by her son, Jim Herzstock (Janet); her daughters, Martha Fulgham (Scott), Christine Lossani (Frank) and Laura Carson (William); her grandchildren, Edward Herzstock, Barbara Herzstock, Matthew Fulgham, Jeffrey Fulgham, Amy Harrison (JP), Karl Horner, Andrew Horner, Alex Davies, Lauren Lossani, Marissa Carson and Eric Carson; and her great-grandchildren, Simeon Henrick Laub and River Scott Harrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Howard Wissel; her second husband, William Herzstock; and her brother, Henry "Hank."
Mae was born in Westmont, Ill., to parents Joseph and Helen (Krause) Domanski. She spent many a wonderful day there playing with her brother. She married her first husband in 1946, and he tragically passed away in a car accident in 1947. She later remarried and had four wonderful children. A homemaker most of her life, she extended her love to her children, and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Mae resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at Methwick for the past six years, and previously lived in Port Charlotte, Fla., and Wolfeboro, N.H. She enjoyed living in many locations around the country and Canada. A world traveler, Mae and her husband, Bill, enjoyed trips to Greece and Mexico. Mae lovingly left us with her beautiful additions to this world in the form of her masterful artwork, having studied at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and The Art Institute of Chicago. Her paintings and sketches will give all who view them a wonderful reminder of her. She was an avid cook, baker and gardener, always baking German chocolate cakes for everyone's birthday. She made friends everywhere she went, including the third floor at Methwick Manor. She enjoyed her exercise classes so much!
The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Mercy and the staff at the Woodlands Nesetril wing for all of their love and care while she was with them.
Memorials may be made out to the family.
