Paul K. Hofmeyer and his wife, Dr. Stacy Lynn Thompson, died in a car accident on the evening of April 11, 2014, in Eastern Iowa, near their home in Iowa City.
Paul Kenneth Hofmeyer was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Jan. 12, 1972, to Ken and Eunice Hofmeyer. Paul graduated from Urbandale High School in 1990, received his Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from University of Alabama - Huntsville in 1995 and earned his MBA from the University of Iowa in 2002.
Paul was a devoted husband and father and was committed to his faith. Paul and Stacy Thompson M.D. were married in 2007 and were very active in the Iowa City community. Along with Stacy, his children, Matthew and Katie were the center of his universe. They had a great time skiing and traveling to multiple places in the U.S.
Paul and Stacy were members of the Good News Bible Church in Iowa City. Whatever the setting or the challenge at hand, Paul was always ready to help.
Throughout his career, Paul developed significant expertise in Lean Six Sigma principles and utilized his training in various organizations, including Caterpillar Corp., Pella Corp., Terex Corp., Clipper Windpower and most recently, Rockwell Collins, where he leveraged his engineering skills, Six Sigma training and love of aviation. Paul's passion for flying was evidenced in the joy of taking friends, family and co-workers up in the skies and serving on the board of the Iowa City Municipal Airport.
Paul is survived by his children, Matthew (14) and Katie (10), Pocahontas; mother, Eunice Hofmeyer, Urbandale; sister, Theresa Touchton (Keith), West Des Moines; brothers, Tim Hofmeyer (Robyn) Moseley, Va., and John Hofmeyer, (Gabriela) San Francisco, Calif.; seven nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Hofmeyer.
Memorial services for Paul and Stacy will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Good News Bible Church, 845 Pepperwood Dr., Iowa City. An additional memorial service with burial to follow for Paul will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the McLaren's Resthaven Funeral Home in West Des Moines.
