Stephen McAnally
STEPHEN MCANALLY Cedar Rapids Happy trails to our native son, Stephen Lee McAnally of Colorado Springs, Colo., who died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. Services are pending. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Nov. 3, 1949, to Betty and Robert McAnally, he went on to become truly one of a kind. Steve graduted from Washington High School in 1967 and entered Loras College. After his dad's car accident in 1967, he left school to come home and support his mother and eight brothers and sisters. In 1969, Steve joined the U.S. Air Force and served through 1974. Stationed at ENT Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, he had found a new home there. You might say he was born again. His love for the outdoors drew him into engineering, where he founded and operated Shavano Land Survey. Steve was a true sportsman, enjoying and participating in many sports. He was a Rockies, Broncos and Hawkeye fan. His heart belonged to baseball though, and how fitting that his hero, Yogi Berra, and he would enter the pearly gates the same day. Steve's spirit lives on through his wife, Mary; his children, Jeremy, Patrick, Phillip and Allison; his mother, Betty Meis; brothers, Tom and Jim Meis; sisters, Susan Hippert, Julie McNeal, Kris Smith and Cindy Petersen; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, all who love him and will miss him very much. In honoring your well-lived life Steve, the highest compliment is also the simplest.
