Oringa Klotz, 105, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marengo and Newhall, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner and the Rev. Ardel Barta. Burial: St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins. A vigil service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Oringa is survived by one son, Wilbert F. Klotz and wife Wanda of Gibson; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Martha (Brecht) Lohrer; her husband, Walter H. Klotz; daughter, Regina Dripps; three sisters, Sylvia Becker, Elva Mae Meskimen and Thelma Lohrer; four brothers, Willis, Loyal, Myron and Eldred Lohrer; and four sisters-in-law, Mildred (Frimel) Lohrer, Rose (Becker) Lohrer, Grace (Wolf) Lohrer and Hazel (Bartosh) Lohrer.
Oringa Lohrer was born June 18, 1910, in Benton County, the daughter of John and Martha Lohrer. She married Walter H. Klotz on Feb. 12, 1929, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Watkins. She and Walter lived on a farm five miles northeast of Marengo for 14 years. In 1943, they moved to a farm in Newhall until 1962, when they retired and moved to the town of Newhall. Later, in 1976, they moved to Cedar Rapids.
Her work records, aside from the farming years, included working for Joan & Dr. Caraway at Amana, the Cedar Rapids Gazette and Virginia Gay Hospital at Vinton.
Oringa was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Altar and Rosary Society and the Foresters. She enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, gardening flowers, selling antiques and Edith Rehnberg cosmetics. She loved her family and was an important part of her grandchildren's lives who also considered her their best friend.
Mom, you were always a tough old gal and kept your chin up right till the end, always staying positive. You are in inspiration to all of us. We love and miss you.
Memorials may be contributed to St. Jude Catholic Church or Linn Manor Care Center in Marion.
