MARGARET BRIDGET BIEVER LEFTWICH
Cedar Rapids
Margaret Bridget Biever Leftwich, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Nov. 12, 2015, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Margaret's family includes two sons, Ronald (Denise) Leftwich of Roseburg, Ore., and Allyn Leftwich of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many very dear nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Susan Biever of Lourdes, Iowa; and three sisters, Mary Novak, Genevieve Owens and Susan Anderson.
Margaret Bridget Biever was born March 5, 1919, in Lourdes to Francis and Susan Biever. She was married to Lester Odeal Leftwich on Aug. 22, 1942, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Keokuk. Lester died July 18, 1977. Margaret graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma in 1936. She later graduated from the Burlington Beauty Academy and was employed by Roosevelt Hotel Beauty Salon in Cedar Rapids. In 1960, she went to work for the City of Cedar Rapids and after 24 years, retired in 1984 as graphic services director.
Margaret was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and in her retirement, actively volunteered at Mercy Medical Center and Brucemore. Her Saturday nights, however, were reserved for Lawrence Welk.
A private family service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church/Cemetery in Lourdes at a later date. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving the family. Please honor Margaret with your thoughts and prayers.
The family would like to thank all of her friends for keeping in touch during these last years, and a special thank-you to the professional staff at Hospice House of Mercy.
