Laurel Weldon Decker went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
He was born in Snowflake, Ariz., on April 27, 1938, to Jesse and Bessie (Burnham) Decker. He was educated at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City, Utah. He obtained master's degrees in both music and history, and a doctorate in city planning. He also played four musical instruments in the BYU orchestra during his years there. He taught music and history and worked in city planning in Tucson, Ariz. He worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Iowa City, Iowa, for many years, as well as being a lifetime member of the church. Private burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty on Thursday.
Survivors include six children, including Cassie Decker Thompson of Taylorsville, Utah; his sisters, Flora (Klaron) Donaldson of Duncan, Ariz., and Gladys (Allison) Robison of Fillmore, Utah; his stepchildren, Ronda (Mark) Lipsius of Iowa City, Alan (Candace) Curry of Sharon Center, Kimberly (Darryl) Fosdyck of Estill Springs, Tenn., and Jacque (Tony) Eggert of Solon; grandchildren, Tim Lipsius, Danielle Lipsius, Tiffany (Brandon) Hanes, Kyle Curry, Roman Eggert, Reagan Eggert, Devon Eggert, Payten Curry, Danica Curry, Megan Fosdyck and Trevor Fosdyck; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Adelyn Hanes; and his beloved wife, Judith Decker.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brothers, Calvin, Rey and Victor Decker.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St., where there will be a 6 p.m. Celebration of Life service.
