A Marion man is accused of raping a woman and restraining a young girl to satisfy his sexual desires, according to court documents.
James A. Olds, 43, has been charged with third-degree sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor, lascivious acts with a child, indecent contact with a child, indecent exposure, false imprisonment and second-degree theft, according to criminal complaints filed in Linn County District Court. All of the alleged incidents happened more than a year ago at his residence, the lower unit at 928 11th St. in Marion.
According to the complaint, around Aug. 19, 2009, Olds had sexual intercourse with a woman against her will at his residence.
In addition, during the 18 months before the incident, police said Olds repeatedly exploited a girl between the time she was 3 1/2 to 6 years old. According to the complaint, Olds rubbed himself against the child's clothed leg, while he held her around the waist, to satisfy his sexual desires.
On a different occasion, after the child said she didn't want to disrobe, Olds allegedly took off the child's clothes, restrained her to a chair with a measuring tape and took pictures of her. The child told investigators Olds showed her the photographs, and also showed them to other people.
Prosecutors allege Olds had similar conduct between February 2009 and August 2010.
Online court records show Olds was convicted of second-degree theft last month for an incident that happened in February 2008. He was given a 5-year suspended prison sentence, placed on three years of probation and ordered to pay a $750 fine. He also was convicted of third-degree fraud and unauthorized use of a credit card in 2006.
Olds is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 5 to face the new charges.
