An Iowa City man has been arrested on theft and burglary charges after police said the victim reported spotting his missing items at a pawn shop.
According to police reports, 25-year-old Pablo Roberto Gomez-Cuevas admitted to taking contractor-grade tools valued at $8,158 from the garage of a contractor he used to work for on South Riverside Drive Jan. 4.
Gomez-Cuevas then reportedly sold the tools to a pawn shop, where the contractor later recognized them as his stolen tools, police said.
According to police reports, Gomez-Cuevas told officers he took the tools because his girlfriend is pregnant and he was low on money.
Gomez-Cuevas is charged with second-degree theft and third-degree burglary, both Class D felonies.
According to the Johnson County Jail, he is being held on a $32,500 bond, which also covers charges of identity theft and forgery.
