A Cedar Rapids man who told police he stabbed his girlfriend later realized he only thought about it, police said.
Police and an ambulance rushed to the area of First Avenue East and 35th Street when Nathaniel S. Akers, 27, made the report around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Initially, he told the 911 dispatcher that he needed to be picked up because he was drunk and had been driving. But then he said he stabbed his girlfriend, police said.
Akers told the 911 dispatcher that he was "going back to prison," according to the police report.
Officers arrived to find Akers sitting in a parking lot. When they asked him about the stabbing, he said he didn't stab anyone, but thought about it, police said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the girlfriend was found unharmed inside her residence.
Akers was arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Linn County Jail.?
