Two women were arrested, including one for drunken driving, after a plastic bottle thrown from a car hit the personal vehicle of an off-duty police officer.
According to the police report, officer John McDaniel was northbound on Interstate 380 near 29th Street NE around 9 p.m. Sunday when the bottle hit his vehicle. Five people were in the car, and as McDaniel followed the car, one of the females inside flipped him off, police said.
Officer McDaniel followed the car to a parking lot in the 1600 block of Center Point Road NE, where he identified himself as a police officer. Other on-duty units soon arrived.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said three men inside the car were allowed to leave because they were not intoxicated and were not causing problems.
The driver, Ramonica M. Meyer, 27, of Iona, Ind., was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and no insurance. Officers found a small amount of marijuana in the purse of one of the passengers. Mallissa M. Galloway, 24, of 1038 17th St. NE, was arrested for possession of marijuana and public intoxication.
Meyer and Galloway were taken to the Linn County Jail.
