Kernels' Miller promoted, Chatwood comes to town

Apr. 22, 2009 10:33 pm
Cedar Rapids Kernels starting pitcher Jayson Miller has been promoted to high-Class A Rancho Cucamonga and will be replaced on the active roster by right-handed starter Tyler Chatwood.
Chatwood, 19, was in Los Angeles Angels extended spring training. He was the Angels' top draft pick last year, a second-rounder, who went 1-2 with a 3.08 ERA in 11 starts for the Arizona Rookie League Angels. He is ranked the #11 prospect in the organization, according to Baseball America.
Miller, 23, went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts for the Kernels. He allowed 11 hits and one walk in 12 innings, striking out 11. A lefty without top velocity, some have compared him to Michael Anton, who pitched well for the Kernels for half a season before getting promoted.
The Kernels also are expected to add one more pitcher to the roster tomorrow to get them to 12 and 25 on the active roster.
