Richard D. Spurlock, 87, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community following a long illness. In honor of Richard's life, the family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Summit Pointe Senior Living Community, 3505 English Glen Ave., Marion.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Clinton) Smith of Medford, Ore.; two grandchildren, Justin (Joanie) Smith of Redding, Calif., and Jordan Smith of Portland, Ore.; and a dear friend, Chuck Sitter of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Paul and Irene (Walters) Spurlock. He graduated from Ottumwa High School and the University of Northern Iowa. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Richard married Verna Williamson and they later divorced. He retired from Rockwell Collins, where he worked for many years.
Richard had many interests, including computers, music and the arts. He was an active member in his church, which gave him respite and strength. However, his greatest love of all was his family and time spent with them. He touched many lives in many ways, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
