Kernels put pitcher Smith on DL

The parent Los Angeles Angels announced Tuesday that Cedar Rapids Kernels starting pitcher Will Smith has been put on the seven-day disabled list with a strained hamstring.
Smith, 19, was injured fielding a ball in the first inning of his start last weekend at Kane County. The Angels have not replaced Smith on the active roster, meaning the Kernels are a 24 players, one under maximum.
"He'll miss his next start," said Kernels Manager Bill Mosiello. "That's the only thing we know for certain."
Mosiello said he expects to have a starting pitcher added to the active roster sometime this week. This is the Kernels' second roster move of the early season. Lefty reliever Andrew Taylor was promoted to high-Class A Rancho Cucamonga last weekend and replaced by righty Francis Cabrera from Los Angeles Angels extended spring training.
Cabrera, 21, pitched part of last season with Cedar Rapids, going 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 11 relief appearances.
