SPRINGVILLE — Class 1A 10th-ranked North-Linn broke away early with a 16-0 run and presented co-head coach Mike Hilmer with his 300th career victory, 75-40, over Springville, in Tri-Rivers Conference boys' basketball action Friday night at Machovec Gymnasium.
'Any milestone a coach or player gets is because of the team,' Hilmer said. 'I've been fortunate to have a lot of good players and good teams through the years.'
Hilmer has coached 25 seasons, the last 17 at North-Linn. This year's team is 10-0.
Freshman Jake Hilmer, Mike's son, led the Lynx with 17 points. Logan Novak added 16, Ryan Miller 14. They sat the final 6 1/2 minutes.
The Lynx led, 9-7, before scoring 16 straight for a 25-7 advantage. It was 42-22 at halftime.
Hilmer shares coaching duties with his father, Bob, whose next win will be his 800th. North-Linn is at Monticello on Saturday.
