Roundup: Independence gets first win over Decorah

Host Independence accomplished a couple of firsts Friday night in a 36-28 win over Decorah in a Class 3A District 3 prep football matchup.
Scoring 14 points off turnovers, the Mustangs beat the Vikings for the first time in their 22 meetings and are 3-0 for the first time since 1997.
Nicolas Holt rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns for Independence and also completed 6 of 8 passes for 88 yards two more scores. Colin Butzlaff caught four of those passes for 68 yards and both TDs.
Garrett Wise led Decorah's effort with 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Vikings fell to 0-3.

WEST DELAWARE 47, WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 25
— Coy Roussell rushed for 270 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 2-ranked Hawks picked up a big win in Class 3A District 3.
Roussell scored on runs of 2, 14, 71 and 12 yards as West Delaware improved to 3-0, 1-0, handing the fifth-ranked Go-Hawks their first loss of the season.
Max Ridenour completed 6 of 16 passes for 175 yards and three TDs for the Hawks. All three to Sam Maloney, covering 64 53 and 15 yards.

MONTICELLO 26 CAMANCHE 10
— Sophomore quarterback Jacob Manternach completed 16 of 23 passes for 129 yards and a touchdowns and also rushed for two TDs as the Panthers rolled to a 2A-4 road victory.
Sophomore running back Max Keleher chipped in with 143 yards and a touchdown on 17 rushes.
Monticello improved to 1-0, 2-1, dropping Camanche to 0-1, 1-2.

WEST BRANCH 38, WEST BURLINGTON NOTRE DAME 17
— Luke Lenoch rushed for 142 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Bears scored 31 unanswered points for a big road victory,
Lenoch rushed for two TDs and also scored on a 75-yard reception at the end of the first half.
After rolling up 260 yards in the first half, Notre Dame managed just 70 in the second as West Branch (3-0) scored 24 second-half points, 21 in the fourth quarter.

NORTH FAYETTE-VALLEY 35, CENTER POINT URBANA 0
— Tanner Kuhens rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown as the eighth-ranked TigerHawks bounced back after a loss to Anamosa last week and gained revenge on the Stormin' Pointers in West Union.
Dillon Baumler added 58 yards and three TDs on 11 carries as the defending Class 2A state champs avenged their only loss last year.
NORTH-LINN 44, STARMONT 8 — Logan Novak completed 17 of 32 passes for 434 yards and five touchdowns as the Lynx (1-2, 1-0 Class A-5) beat the Stars for their first win of the season.
Ben Wolff led North-Linn receivers with seven receptions for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Miller caught six passes for 117 yards and a touchdown and Brandon Stepanek caught two passes for 95 yards and a touchdown for North-Linn.
