The long-standing tradition of the Johnson County I-Club breakfast, held in Iowa City on Fridays before home football games, will be discontinued for the 2015 season.
The reason is scheduling, Patrick Sojka, assistant director for UI Athletics Development, said Wednesday. The Hawkeyes will hold a practice or walk-through on Friday mornings before home games, when the breakfast was held. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has been a main attraction for the event during his 16 seasons. The I-Club also honors Iowa's seniors before their final home games.
The Johnson County I-Club is looking at other event options, Sojka said. More information from the football program regarding practice schedules and plans will follow in the coming weeks.
In recent years, the event was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City. It included a raffle, Ferentz providing a football update and an appearance from a special guest, which, last season, ranged from former Iowa QB Chuck Long to men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery.
In May, the Linn County I-Club postponed its inaugural family fun day - originally scheduled for May 14 - until August. This year's date coincided with UI graduation and other Corridor activities previously scheduled for this weekend. By shifting it to August, chapter president Wes Cooling said the event - likely on an undetermined Friday night - will serve as a kickoff to the fall sports season.

Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz signs his autograph for Jason Gire of Cedar Rapids during the social hour of the Linn County I-Club spring banquet at the Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Building in southwest Cedar Rapids on Thursday, April 22, 2010. Gire, an Iraqi veteran, wanted to show his gratitude for the autographs he had received from Ferentz during his deployment, by giving Ferentz one of his battalion coins along with another coin that has the tiger hawk on it.
