WALTER I. STONER

Walter I. Stoner, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will
be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Survivors include his son, David Stoner and wife, Gail, of Boulder, Colo.; his daughter-in-law, Judy Stoner of Cedar Rapids; a niece, Wendy Schamberger of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn; and his son, Gary Stoner.
Walter was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Irving and Bessie (Osborn) Stoner. He married the love of his life on July 8, 1945, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Walter was a mail carrier for the Cedar Rapids Postal Service and a charter member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. He also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Post Office Union (NALC) and the VFW. Walter and Kathryn enjoyed camping and traveled to all 50 states.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
