Betty Lavon Meier, 87, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Yuma.
Betty was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Littleport, Iowa, to John and Mildred (Wade) Miller. On Dec. 28, 1945, she married Richard Meier in Keota. The couple lived in the Harper and Keota communities before moving to Texas, then Louisiana. They moved back to Iowa and made their home in Cedar Rapids in 1963. Betty worked at Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1991. She enjoyed making quilts for family and friends.
Survivors include two children, Richard Meier of Yuma, Ariz., and Kathy Cook of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Amy Cook of Kodiak, Alaska, James Cook of Las Vegas, Michael (Agnieszka) Cook of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Rika Meier of Tucson, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Victoria, Alyeska and Jonathan Cook; two brothers, Bob (Jenny) Miller of Cedar Rapids and Denny (Sue) Miller of Arvada, Colo.; sister-in-law, JoAnne Miller of Harper; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, John (Jack) Meier; brother, Milo Miller; and sister, Maxine Hammes.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Keota. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home.
A general memorial fund has been established.
