MARGURIETE MARIE COOK PIEPER

Marguriete Marie Cook Pieper, 95, of Lisbon, passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital Hemphill Hospice Unit, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: Lisbon Cemetery.
Survivors include her brother, LaVern Cook of Lisbon; nephews, Ronald (Bonnie) Cook and Russell (Dianne) Cook, all of Mechanicsville; great-niece, Kellie (Jason) Arduser of Monticello; and great-great-nephew and niece, Kyle and Kayla Arduser.
Marguriete was born May 11, 1920, the daughter of John and Ivory (Achey) Cook in Cedar County, south of Lisbon. She attended "Prairie Bell," a country school in Cedar County and graduated in May 1939 from Lisbon High School. She belonged to the 4-H club and attended Coon Creek Church while she was growing up.
On Oct. 10, 1942, Marguriete was united in marriage to Ernest Pieper at Kahoka, Mo. They devoted their life to farming and homemaking for 43 years. They also enjoyed many vacations around the country together. She also enjoyed going to dances, playing cards, the Neighborhood Club and the monthly Sunday breakfast with the breakfast group of friends.
In 1976, they retired and moved off the farm to the home they built east of Lisbon. Marguriete worked for a number of years at Ditto's Family Restaurant in Stanwood and for Plaza Auto Auction in Mount Vernon for 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; brother-in-law, Everett Pieper; parents, John and Ivory Cook; infant brother, Arnold Cook; and sister-in-law, Geneva Cook.
