Cook, Deloris Rouse
Deloris Rouse Cook, 92, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be held at the Urbana Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Deloris was born June 25, 1917, near Urbana, to John and Dolly Rouse. On Nov. 2, 1935, she married Harold “Hi” Cook at Independence. The couple farmed in the Urbana/Center Point area until their retirement in 1994, when they moved to Urbana. Hi preceded his wife in death on June 2, 2001.
Deloris was a member of the Urbana Christian Church and C.W.F. of her congregation, the KUB Club, and the Urbana Memorial Cemetery Association. She volunteered at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab for many years. Her greatest joy in life came from her role as an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Walter (Eleanor) Cook of Walker; her daughters, Reita Cook of Urbana and Leita (Bob) Duello of Brandon; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Paula Cook; six brothers; and nine sisters.
A memorial fund has been established.
