Sheryl Cook, 75, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lola "Sheryl" Cook was born July 23, 1938, in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Shirley (Ayers) Acker. She grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School. On Nov. 10, 1971, Sheryl married Howard Cook in Iowa City.
Sheryl worked in food service for the Iowa City Community School District for over 25 years before retiring in 2008. She also currently worked part time at Iowa City VFW Post 3949. Sheryl was a 45-year member of the Eagles Auxiliary, where she served as past state president. She also was very active in the VFW Auxiliary for a number of years, serving as past district president.
In her free time, she enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include her husband, Howard, of Iowa City; three sons, Tim of Des Moines, David of Bardstown, Ky., and Donald of Irvine, Ky.; a brother, Vere Acker of Greenfield; and seven grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Keith Acker.
