Valerie K. Cook, 73, of Hiawatha, died Thursday, March 5, 2015, at her home. Family graveside services for both Valerie and Dale will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Per Valerie's request, there will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Miller of Cedar Rapids; her best friend, Laurie Bien of Atkins; a granddaughter, Dakaria Matthews; many friends; her four dogs, Mac, Josie, Lady and Joey; and her parakeet, Zulu.
Valerie was born Jan. 20. 1942, in Sioux City, the daughter of Orville and Mary Croft Cook. She married Dale C. Cook on June 8, 1962, in Brooklyn, Iowa. Dale passed away in 2004.
Valerie worked at HyVee for over 20 years, retiring in 1986.
She enjoyed mushroom hunting, reading magazines, working in her flower garden and especially the time she spent with her beloved family, friends and dogs.
Valerie was a wonderful person whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Valerie's name.
