Delos "Jim" E. Cook, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Kensett, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at ManorCare in Cedar Rapids.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Delos Emmet Cook was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Butler County, Iowa, to James and Viola (Harris) Cook. He grew up in Plymouth, Iowa, attended high school in McIntire and received his GED through the Navy.
Jim enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946, where he served in the Submarine Service for 21 years. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, China Service Medal, Korean War Medal, Navy Occupation Medal and a National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
Jim married Delores Cook on Aug. 24, 1996.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. Jim enjoyed baseball, playing cards and spending his winters in Arizona.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Becky Chiafos; stepchildren, Vickie (Mark) Hukill and Julie (fiance William Taschereau) Welsh; his grandchildren, Hannah, Haley, Joshua, Derrick, Nichole, Cory, Miranda and Tommy; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Cook; his wife, Delores Cook in June 2018; his siblings; and his parents.
