Naibert, Elizabeth T.
Elizabeth T. Naibert, 95, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2011. An open house in Betty's memory will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday in the Oaks Building at Cottage Grove Place. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service assisting the family.
Betty was born in Harvey, Ill., on March 19, 1916, the daughter of Wilder Bowles and Ulrica (Rorby) Thompson. She was a graduate of the University of Chicago, a member of Phi Delta Upsilon social group and Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic society. Following her university training, she spent the next year in Chateau Thierry, France, teaching English. In 1939, she married Richard L. Naibert D.D.S., and has since resided in Cedar Rapids.
Betty was a member of College Club and the Linn County Dental Auxiliary. She was a member of the Franklin High School PTA and was president of the Washington High School PTA where her children attended school. Betty was also a Camp Fire Girls Bluebirds leader and a Cub Scout den leader. For several years Mrs. Naibert assisted professioral staff at Coe College as a course volunteer. She also worked with the Headstart program.
Many volunteer hours were spent at Seminole Valley Farm Museum. Betty was an excellent pianist and loved gardening and outdoor activities.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (David) Kundel of Letts, Anne (Bob) Buchacek of Memphis, Tenn., Robert (Liz) of Overland Park, Kan., and Jim (Jill Miller) of Corvallis, Ore. There are 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to Seminole Valley Farm Museum or to the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
