SIOUX CITY - Max Kalter scored the go-ahead goal with 2:34 left, and the Sioux City Musketeers ended the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' record road win streak, 3-1, Saturday night.
The Riders (20-4) lost for the first time in 13 games away from home. The 12-game road win streak to begin the season broke a United States Hockey League record.
Casey Jerry's goal, with an assist from Hugh McGing, gave Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second period. But Robert Carpenter scored on the power play 6:40 into the third to tie it for Sioux City, which leads the Western Conference with a 16-6-1 record and 33 points.
Former RoughRiders defenseman Avni Berisha put the game away with an empty net goal in the final minute. Ryan Larkin made 27 saves but suffered his first USHL loss in net, dropping his record to 7-1.
For a second straight night, the RoughRiders played with only 17 skaters, two shy of maximum, because of the absence of captain Andrew Oglevie, assistant captain Charlie Curti, defenseman Mitch Reinke and forward Adam Gaudette, who are on an American all-star team playing in the World Junior ‘A' Challenge international tournament in Canada.
The RoughRiders have a home-and-home series with Madison this week, with the home game Thursday night at 7:05.
