Secrist, Charles 'Chuck'
Charles “Chuck” Secrist, 54, died suddenly Friday, May 4, 2012, at Jones Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stone City, with interment in Hazel Knoll Cemetery. Father Wayne Droessler will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Surviving are his mother, Helen Secrist, Central City; the love of his life, Carole Johnston, and her children, Elyse and Travis Johnston, and granddaughter, Lex; four siblings: his twin sister, Christine (John Blattner) Secrist, Panora, Ronald (Cathy) Secrist and Julie (Charlie) Ungs, both of Ames, and Tom (Lynne Hansen) Secrist, Denver, Colo.; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter.
Charles Alan Secrist was born Feb. 25, 1958, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Walter and Helen (Kazimour) Secrist. Chuck graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools with the class of 1976. He went on to Iowa State University, graduating in 1980, with a degree in ag business. Chuck then went to work for Cargill in Center Junction and Central City. He loved to farm and operate the family farm. He was employed by Asgrow Seed for 10 years and was a Golden Harvest seed dealer and a bartender at the Anamosa Bowling Center. Chuck served on the rural township fire board where he was the secretary/treasurer.
