Danny J. Bauer, 66, of Monticello, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Manorcare Health Services in Dubuque after a lengthy battle with cancer. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello is assisting the family.
Danny was born Feb. 14, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Laverne and Mary (Marugg) Bauer. He graduated from the Monticello High School with the class of 1968. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1972 when he returned to Monticello. He married Linda McElmeel and together they raised their family in Monticello. Dan was a heavy equipment operator through the Operators Union in Cedar Rapids until he retired in 2007.
Danny's children and grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He never missed his family's sporting events and he enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycling and stock car races.
Danny is survived by his wife, Linda; three sons, Jeff (Lisa) Bauer of Monticello, Cory Bauer of Monticello and Troy (Brandy) Bauer of North Liberty; the mother of his grandson, Nikki Jaeger Clayton; four grandchildren, Alexia, Rylee and Breanna Bauer and Chase Bauer; his mother, Mary Kleitsch of Monticello; and two sisters, Lois Newholm of Marion and Debi (David) Meyers of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his father; his step-father, Carl Kleitsch; his brother, Charles Bauer; and a brother-in-law, Craig Newholm.
