Strawberry Point
Elda E. Malone, 88, of Strawberry Point, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a Scripture service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point, with visitation one hour before Mass. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Masonville.
Elda is survived by her husband, Bernard of Strawberry Point; children, Carolyn (Roy) Reicks of Missouri Valley, Brian Malone of Des Moines, Stuart (Elaine) Malone of Earlham and Steven (Tina) Malone of Greeley; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Elda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Kenna; and a brother, Maurice Kenna.
Elda was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Dundee, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alice (McCallum) Kenna. She was a graduate of Lamont High School. After attending college, she taught at the Coffins Grove Country School for two years, was a bookkeeper for Hartman's Quarry for five years and worked as a certified nursing assistant with the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home for 27 years. On April 12, 1947, Elda married Bernard Edward Malone at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamont. Together, they farmed near Lamont and Strawberry Point for 60 years. The couple had been married for more than 69 years.
