A North Liberty woman is accused of assault causing bodily injury and child endangerment resulting in serious injury after authorities say she injured a child while the child's father watched at their home.
North Liberty police responded to 81 Golfview Dr,, the home of Natasha M. Jones. 26, and Derrick A. Robe, 21, at approximately 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, police found a child under age 2 who had severe bruising on the head, back and groin area. The child was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for evaluation of possible internal injuries.
According to police reports, Jones inflicted the wounds while in the presence of Robe, the child's father.
Jones reportedly acknowledged the abuse and told officers that she "needed help."
Robe reportedly admitted to police that the abuse had taken place throughout the day, that he had allowed the child to be abused by Jones and that he did not call for help.
Jones was being held on a $12,500 bond Tuesday afternoon. Robe was being held on a $10,000 bond.
It's unclear how authorities became aware of the incident, because a formal report has not yet been filed, North Liberty Police Chief Jim Warkentin said.
