Robert "Bob" Franklin Berry, 81, of Monticello, formerly of Alburnett, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Alburnett United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Jon Moss, with a visitation one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Alburnett.
Survivors include his children, Jeanne Bailey of Alburnett, Julie (Ron) Hoover of Alburnett, Janet (Dave) Sargent of Alburnett and Jennifer (Lenny) Pechner of San Diego, Calif.; grand-children, Jodie Koelker, Dan Bailey, Jamie Bailey, Eric Hoover, Cindy Scott, Brandi Sargent, Chris Sargent and Hailey Fuentes; 10 great-grandchildren; significant other, Betty Payne, and her family; siblings, Darlene Ferguson, June Smith and Allan Berry; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; and brother, Jim Berry.
Bob was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, to Guy and Claudia (McAtee) Berry. Bob graduated from Alburnett High School in 1952. He married his wife, Audrey Tritle, on June 21, 1953. Bob owned and operated Berry's Furniture and Appliance for several years. He took part in many clubs and organizations. Bob was a charter board member of the Alburnett Foundation, Lions Club, a former city council member, Farmers Mutual Telephone board member, lifetime member of the Alburnett Historical Society, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Wapsie Post 421 of Central City.
He enjoyed watching all sporting activities, especially his kids and grandkids. Bob enjoyed going out to eat with friends, especially Tuesday morning breakfast with his siblings. He loved watching movies, watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, golfing, playing cards, bowling and building things. He also enjoyed baking cookies, making peanut brittle and sharing it with friends.
Bob loved anything that had to do with the town of Alburnett, and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob's memory.
