Fiebelkorn, Marie 'Chris'
Marie “Chris” Fiebelkorn, 70, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Windsor Manor in Vinton following a 3-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Blessed Hope Church in Vinton, with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery in Newhall.
Chris was born July 22, 1940, in Glidden, Wis., to Oscar E. and Anna E. (Johnson) Krans, and graduated from Glidden High School in 1958. She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis., and graduated with a degree in home economics in 1962. Upon graduation she moved and worked in a department store in Minneapolis.
Chris had a pen pal and corresponded with him until they met, and courted. She and her pen pal, Leroy Fiebelkorn, were united in marriage on June 27, 1964, in Minneapolis. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm south of Vinton until Leroy's death in 1994.
Chris is survived by her brother, Alan (Claudia) Krans of Gillette, Wis.; her nephews, Michael, Jon and Daniel Krans; her niece, Sarah Kranz; her sister-in-law, Doris “Dee” Kriz of Cedar Rapids; her nephews, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Tippey of Dallas, Texas, and Douglas (Tamara) Tippey of Houston, Texas; her special cat, Midgie; and her extended family at Blessed Hope Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; and nephew, Steve Riffey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Blessed Hope Church in Vinton.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
