Gordon, Robert J.
Robert J. Gordon, 78, of Marion, passed away Aug. 12, 2013, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Jim Parton presiding. Interment will follow the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Robert was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Marquette, Iowa, to Kenneth and Claudia (Rose) Gordon. He enlisted in the Navy and served for eight years. Robert worked for Rockwell-Collins in the maintenance department. He retired at age 57 and drove a school bus for Linn-Mar Schools for another 15 years.
Robert is survived by his ex-wife, Ann Gordon; his daughter, Amy Gordon; sister and brother-in-law, Shawn and Bruce DeBow, and their children, Cain, Malik and Syrus; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Kate, Nell, Etta and Sally.
Robert enjoyed his monthly breakfasts with the school bus drivers and his daily coffee and doughnut at the Marion Hy-Vee. His most precious daughter, Amy was his main focus. He volunteered for swim meets, softball and basketball games that she was involved in. Robert really enjoyed fishing and hunting. He had a tremendous love for his dogs, Thor, Button and Melody.
