Gobidas, Mildred Elizabeth
Mildred Elizabeth Gobidas, 93, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died there Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Surviving, to honor her memory, are two daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Derbes of Tequesta, Fla., and Michelle Behnke of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Danielle and Aimee Derbes; a nephew, Rick (Nancy) Thornburgh of Saginaw, Mich.; a niece, Claudia Fuller of Guntersville, Ala.; and a cousin, Leland (Brownie) Thornburgh of Pleasantville, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Morton and Martha Walker Thornburgh; her husband, Carmen Gobidas; two sisters and one brother.
Mildred was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Pleasantville, Iowa. She graduated from Pleasantville High School. She married Carmen L. Gobidas on Aug. 3, 1943, in Oakland, Calif. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids school system and then Rockwell-Collins as a secretary for a total of 40 years. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. She loved music, dancing, and sewing.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
