Shirley Jean Bradwell, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at her home on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial will take place at a later time in Rock Island, Ill.
Shirley was born Oct. 11, 1938, to John and Mildred Stepanek, in Bachamon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Richard Bradwell on Aug. 1, 1981, in Waterville, Maine. Shirley worked as an LPN at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids and various other facilities in Iowa and Maine. She was an avid painter, baker and knitter, knitting hats, scarves and mittens for her children and grandchildren, canning vegetables and growing every kind of hosta you could imagine. She was a cancer survivor, fighting Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Shirley's family was very important to her and she was happiest when her grandchildren were around.
Shirley is survived by her loving children, Eva (Bryan) Thompson, Laina Shuman, Teresa McFarlane, Verlan (Claudia) Klenk, Donetta (Robert) Auen and Coreena Klenk; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joyce Hollingsworth.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Richard; her parents; and an infant son, John Michael Klenk.
