Smith, Mildred Gladys

Mildred Gladys Smith, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Rock Ridge Care Center, Shellsburg. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Mildred was born Jan. 2, 1919, near Belle Plaine, daughter of Charles and Julia Sikir. She lived in the area until moving to Cedar Rapids with her husband, Emory Smith. Mildred retired after 45 years with Smulekoff's.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandson, and enjoyed reading, music, traveling and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Charles Sikir Jr.; and sister, Blache Preston.

Mildred is survived by three sons, David (Rita) Smith of Atkins, Eric (Sally) Smith of Fort Collins, Colo., and Bruce (Claudia) Smith of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kelly (Alex) Pelzel of North Liberty, Clayton Smith of Marion and Teresa (Todd) Mell of Columbus, Ohio; and great-grandson, Asa Pelzel.
