Marie Anderson, 97, of Elgin, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at Stoney Brook Village, West Union.
Marie Rose, the daughter of Daniel and Hulda (Friederich) Sutter, was born March 24, 1918, in Clayton County, Iowa. She graduated from Clermont High School in 1936. Marie was baptized and confirmed in February 1940 at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, where she was united in marriage with Allan Anderson on June 8, 1939. Marie was a homemaker and also worked as a janitor at Elgin Post Office and Elgin Public Library.
Marie is survived by her two children, Danice (LeRoy) Larson of New Hampton and Stanley (Gail) Anderson of Elkhart, Ind.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat- grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Sutter of Cedar Rapids and Donald (Marilana) Sutter of Elgin; one sister, Erna (Kenneth) Koupal of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Sutter of West Union.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allan; two brothers, Fredrick and Selmer Sutter, who died in infancy; and her sister-in-law, Violet Sutter.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, with one hour visitation before services Saturday at the church. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Elgin Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will follow at Elgin Cemetery. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin, is helping the family with the arrangements.
