Jul. 5, 2016 4:57 pm
Former Iowa offensive line coach Clovis Hale was killed in a car accident Saturday afternoon near Spicewood, Texas, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Hale 74, coached under Hayden Fry at North Texas and spent two seasons with Fry at Iowa. He left in May 1981 to become defensive line coach at Rice. Current head coach Kirk Ferentz — then age 26 — replaced Hale as Iowa's offensive line coach six weeks later.
Hale coached at several high schools in Texas and also served as an assistant at Texas and Texas Tech.
