Davidson, Robert A. 'Bob'
Robert A. “Bob” Davidson, 85, of Mechanicsville, died at the Hiawatha Care Center on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Bob's visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Saturday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon, with military honors to follow. A private family graveside will be Sunday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville.
Surviving Bob are his wife, Joye; children: Barbara Greenfield of Phoenix, Ariz., and her children, Lindsay and Jeffrey; Nancy Haesemeyer of Mechanicsville; Susan (Jim) Vorhies of Cumming; and Scott (Shauna) Davidson of Bloomingdale, Ill. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Jean Davidson of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents; two brothers, Don and Wesley John; and sons-in-law, Richard Greenfield and Brooks Haesemeyer.
Bob was born March 26, 1927, on the family farm, the son of Alvin and Louise Dayhoff Davidson. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School and attended the University of Iowa before entering the U.S. Army Air Force where he received an honorable discharge in 1946. He married the love of his life, Joye Scott, on June 4, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Bob farmed all of his life in Cedar County. He also served on the Mechanicsville school board and was a member of Busch-Dennis American Legion Post 309 for over 60 years.
Bob was a charter trustee for the Kirkwood Community College board of trustees. He served on that board for 38 years, retiring in 2004. He was one of the longest serving trustees in the state of Iowa, and was recognized by the Kirkwood board as a Trustee Emeritus in 2006.
Bob's life was devoted to his family, friends, and Kirkwood family.

The family extends their grateful appreciation to staff of Promise House Assisted Living Center in Hiawatha and Hiawatha Care Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob's honor may be sent to Kirkwood Foundation - “The Robert and Joye Davidson Scholarship Fund,” P. O. Box 2068, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406; the Mechanicsville Fire and Ambulance Volunteers, Box 190, Mechanicsville, IA 52306; or a memorial of donor's choice.
