Carl George Unglenk, 80, of Amana, died Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Per his wishes, Carl's body has been cremated. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Inurn-ment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service Friday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be contributed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo, and Colonial Manor of Amana.
Carl is survived by his stepchildren, Dennis Graesser and Carol Hopp and husband Gary, both of West Amana; five grandchildren, Nathan Hopp and Crystal Hopp, both of West Amana, Tricia Schutterle (Wayne) of Norway, Tonya Grambo (Rick) of West Amana and Rachel Trimpe of West Amana; and six great-grandchildren, Morgan, Whitney and Ethan Schutterle, Grant and Loralei Trimpe and Brandon Chalfant. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Chris Graesser of West Amana; a niece and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce, in 1998; and two sisters, Rosalie Roth and Marcella Bell and her husband, Jim.
Carl George Unglenk was born June 24, 1934, in Amana, Iowa, the son of Louis and Lina Roth Unglenk. He graduated from Amana High School with the class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1958, attaining the rank of sergeant. Carl was employed with the Amana Meat Market as a butcher and with Schanz Furniture for many years. Carl married Joyce Gleason Graesser on Nov. 13, 1967, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Marengo. Carl was a former member of the Isaac Walton League and the Amana Men's Choir. He enjoyed music and hunting.
